Lewes RFC U16s Lionesses continued their run of form this Sunday with a hard-fought victory over Haywards Heath.  The weather was perfect for running rugby, but the pitch was heavy in places making it energy sapping for both sides.

Lewes gave debuts to three new players; Lola, Maria and Freya and all brought something to the team. Freya’s confidence under the high ball was wonderful, Maria’s running with ball in hand put Lewes on the front foot and Lola’s attacking guile, with a try on debut all helped the Lionesses to victory.

The score did not do Haywards Heath justice, with most of the game being played between the respective teams 22s.  Lewes were made to work hard for the win.  The Lionesses scrum was imperious, even with two new players in the pack.

The backs shifted the ball through the hands incredibly well and with a try each for Chloe, Lola, Annie and a brace for both Edith and Lara, plus five conversions from Chloe meant Lewes were worthy winners.  Final score 5-45.

Coaches’ player of the match was Tabitha for her relentless work rate and Heath awarded opposition player of the match to Edith and Chloe
